THE
NUMBER OF PEOPLE WE SERVE
So
far this fiscal year, July, 2007, the Senior Center has had a total of 520 unduplicated individuals participate in
activities and programs. The Senior Service
Office provided consults on various government programs, long-term care
planning, housing and medical issues to 219 unduplicated individuals in December, 2007.
DIAL-A-RIDE
MEDICAL BUS
The
Dial-a-Ride Medical bus has added another day to their schedule and will now
take you to doctor appointments on Mondays in addition to Tuesday (Danbury) Wednesday (New Haven) and Thursday (Waterbury). Monday is fairly flexible as to destination so
call Sandy if you have an appointment out of town on a Monday –
262-0653.

FOR FUN
Parks
Hopkins will resume his Photos for Fun classes on Wednesdays at 1:30. All are
welcome, beginner or advanced!
PENNY O’CONNELL discusses….
Penny
O’Connell will discuss Current Events 10 a.m., Mondays, at the United Church of Christ
through the first Monday in February. Then her class will start meeting again
in the Public Library through March, 2008.
Thursdays,at 9:45 a.m. at the Public Library, Penny will lecture on King Henry VIII and
all his wives, and his children, and Martin Luther for 8 weeks through the end
of February. Come on down!
QUILTING
CLASS
The
Quilting Class, taught by Lil Orlowski,
is looking for new members. Class is held Wednesdays in the Senior Center at 9:30
a.m. Anyone interested in learning traditional
techniques or new fast methods (we have a quilting machine!) is welcome to join
us. The class will be starting new projects in appliqué and patchwork. Beginners or experienced, join a group of
interesting, talented and friendly quilters.
Computer Room Opens
The Senior Center is happy to announce the opening of its computer room. There are 5 new machines that were purchased
by the Senior Center Friends and each has internet access and Microsoft Office
software. The computers are available Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Please contact Jennifer if you
are interested in volunteering to assist patrons on the computers. 262-0666 ext. 3.
Classes begin on Feb. 4th from 3-4 p.m. (really beginner).
Advanced Beginner classes will be held on Fridays from 2-4 p.m. and will focus on e-mailing and Microsoft Word. Call
Carole to reserve your spot at 262-0651.
OPERA IN THE AFTERNOON
Opera
in the Afternoon will be shown each month at the Pomperaug
Woods Auditorium, 80 Heritage Road. Check our
schedule in Voices, the Shopping News and the Danbury News Times. Operas are shown at 1:00 p.m. Refreshments
will be served and admission is free.

ASSISTANCE
Applications for the State Fuel Assistance Program
are being taken now BY APPOINTMENT ONLY TUESDAYS, WEDNESDAYS AND THURSDAY

3. Guidelines are $20,420 for one (elderly) and $27,380 for two including
social security. There is also an asset
test. Call for an appointment before April 2008.
FRIENDS
OF THE SENIOR CENTER
There will be a general membership meeting of the
Friends in March – stay tuned for the date. Also, there will be a silent
auction for a quilt donated by Jane Blaurock which
will be on display soon in the Center.
FREE TAX
HELP
Tax consulting for the Elderly (Tax-Aide) is a free
program available to those 60 and older and offers income tax preparation
(Federal and State) especially for low and middle-income tax payers. To
schedule an appointment in the Public Library, call Carole Damon at the Senior
Center 262-0651. Hours for help are Tuesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
and Thursdays from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
