Dear Southbury Residents and Businesses:
Southbury is a picturesque New England community comprised of active and concerned citizens, businesses and service organizations. The nearly completed streetscape along Main Street South adds to the town’s charm and brings our town and residents together.
Part of Southbury’s quality is its farmlands, forests, and open spaces. As a community, we have continued our commitment to preserving these natural areas, the true value of which will become increasingly self-evident, as our modern world continues to displace our more natural one.
The preservation of open space is about much more than just keeping land out of the hands of developers to better manage community growth. It is part of Southbury’s long term strategy to maintain and improve our quality of life by conserving natural areas, wildlife habitats and water supply areas in a cohesive network of important environmental systems. The town, in collaboration with like minded organizations, continues to add important pieces to the preservation puzzle, piece by piece, getting ever closer to our goal of protecting 20 percent of Southbury’s total land area.
On behalf of the Town of Southbury, I offer my sincerest appreciation to all of our citizens who volunteer and participate in our civic affairs. Southbury has achieved a record of accomplishment seldom equaled by others because of the dedicated members of our boards, commissions and community service organizations.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Mark A.R. Cooper
First Selectman
