Registrars of Voters office is open Monday through Thursday, 9:00 AM- 4:00PM in Room 206 at the Town Hall.  To be come a voter, persons must be a resident of Southbury, 18 years or older and an American Citizen. Those who register must show valid identification. Valid ID’s include a CT. drivers license with photo, tax bill, utility bill, pay stub and last four digits of Social Security #.

Property owners who are not registered voters in Southbury may vote on the Grand List (money matters) at town referendums providing they are U.S. citizens, 18 years of age or older and own property valued at $1,000 or more. However, ownership of property cannot be in a “trust”.

Southbury is divided into 5 polling sites used for elections. Voters in Districts 1-4 are in Assembly District 69 and voters in  District 5 are in the 131st Assembly District. Voters must vote in their assigned districts.

            *Polling sites for elections only:

                    District 1     Center Firehouse

                    District 2     Sacred Heart Church

                    District 3     Rochambeau Middle School

District 4     The Walzer Family Jewish Community Campus

                    District 5     Southbury Public Library

Referendums are held at the Center Firehouse.

Absentee ballots are issued through the Town Clerks office.

The Registrars conduct an annual canvass of voters through the National Change of Address (NCOA) as approved by the Secretary of State’s office. If voters fail to respond to the NCOA canvass, they are moved to the “inactive list”. If there is no activity after four years, the voter is put on the “removed list” for one year. Following that one year, the voter is deleted.

Once a year the Registrars go to Pomperaug High School to pre-register students who are 17 years old and register students who are 18 years old.

The Registrars also supervise absentee ballots at local nursing homes.
